In the afternoon hours of April 1, 2021, a grim discovery was made in Oklahoma City at the intersection of Northeast 25th Street and Jordan Avenue. Responding to a call, police officers arrived to find 32-year-old Ernest Ogles, a Black male, inside a vehicle, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The initial call to authorities indicated a man had possibly been shot inside the car, a report that was tragically confirmed upon their arrival.
Adding a layer of heartbreak to the incident,
a 2-year-old child was also found inside the vehicle with Ogles. Miraculously, the child was unharmed and was later safely reunited with their mother. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain largely unclear from initial reports, which were released to the public the day after the incident.
As of the immediate aftermath of the discovery of Ogles' body, law enforcement had not taken any suspects into custody. The Oklahoma City Police Department's homicide unit opened an investigation into the death, which was classified as the city's 18th homicide of 2021.
