In Oklahoma City, a promising life was cut tragically short on November 1, 2021. Nigel Brannon, a 21-year-old male, was found deceased inside a vehicle at the River Chase Apartments located near Northwest 113th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Brannon was a former football player for both the University of Memphis and Austin Peay State University, a path that had once held great potential.
Responding to a shooting call at approximately 2:00 p.m.,
Oklahoma City police officers discovered Brannon's body at the scene. Another man, 22-year-old Paris Tolver, was also present and was immediately taken into custody. Investigators believe that Brannon and Tolver, who were reportedly in the car together, were involved in some form of illegal activity that escalated into gunfire.
Further investigation revealed that the two men, who had been high school football teammates, had arranged to meet for a marijuana transaction. According to court documents, Tolver alleged that Brannon had pointed a gun at him during the deal, prompting Tolver to shoot him in what he claimed was self-defense. When police found Brannon, he had a backpack containing a jar of marijuana and a handgun in his possession.
Paris Tolver was arrested at the scene and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a complaint of first-degree murder. He reportedly gave conflicting accounts of the events to the authorities. The case marked the 80th homicide in Oklahoma City for that year as the investigation continued to unfold.
