In a tragic turn of events stemming from a domestic dispute, 38-year-old Ashley Joy Sneed, a female resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was killed on May 7, 2022. The incident unfolded at a residence near East Latimer Court and North 89th East Avenue, where Tulsa police officers responded to a homicide call and found Sneed deceased at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation swiftly pointed to Charles Maurice Colbert, the father of Sneed's one-year-old child, as the
perpetrator. According to reports, the fatal confrontation occurred when Sneed attempted to serve Colbert with child custody papers. Enraged by the legal action, Colbert forced his way into her home. The argument escalated, leading to Colbert shooting Sneed thirteen times, with most of the shots fired while she was on the floor of her laundry room. It was later revealed during legal proceedings that Sneed had been a victim of domestic violence for many years at the hands of Colbert.
Following the shooting, Colbert fled the scene, prompting a search that ended with his apprehension in Dallas, Texas. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. Colbert waived his right to a jury trial, and in a bench trial that concluded in December 2023, he was found guilty. A judge sentenced Charles Maurice Colbert to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Ashley Sneed.
