In Oklahoma City, on the morning of May 26, 2022, a tragic event unfolded inside a hotel room that claimed the life of 45-year-old Boyed Edward 'Shorty' Steen. A white male, Boyed was discovered by police officers who were responding to a report of a double shooting at a hotel located in the 2800 block of NW Expressway.
Upon their arrival at approximately 9:11 a.m., officers found a grim scene. Boyed Steen had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead.
Another individual, identified as Lee Boland, was also found in the room with a critical gunshot wound. Boland was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Investigators believe the incident was a murder-suicide. It is thought that for reasons that remain unknown, Boland shot Steen before turning the weapon on himself. At this time, a motive for the violent encounter has not been determined by law enforcement. As the sole suspect in Steen's death is also deceased, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
Boyed, who was born on September 27, 1976, was remembered as a man who loved life and cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. Originally from Jonesboro, Arkansas, he had spent a significant portion of his life in Trumann before residing in Oklahoma. He was known for his friendly and outgoing nature, with those who knew him saying he never met a stranger. His sudden and violent death left his family and community to grapple with the unexpected loss.
