Velma Doris Walker, an 88-year-old Black female, was found deceased on her front porch in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on the evening of July 2, 2022. A welfare check led police to her home at 3216 NE 14th Pl., where they discovered her slumped over in a chair, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The family of Ms. Walker later showed reporters bullet holes in the chair where she was sitting.
The death was quickly classified as a homicide by the Oklahoma City Police Department.
In the initial stages of the investigation, authorities had no immediate suspects and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest, describing the case as both tragic and shocking.
Later that month, a significant development occurred in the case with the arrest of 19-year-old Elijah Emery in connection with the shooting death of Ms. Walker. Emery was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. While a motive for the shooting has not been publicly released, the investigation led to Emery being identified as the primary suspect. He was taken into custody and held without bond.
