On a summer day in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 23-year-old Farron Cooper, a Black / African American male, was tragically killed. On August 9, 2022, not long after being released from jail, Cooper was shot in the stomach and leg near North Frankfort Avenue. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Tulsa Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into Cooper's death.
For nearly two years, the case remained without a suspect as investigators gathered evidence and spoke with witnesses to piece together the events of that fateful day. The shooting occurred outside the home of his pregnant girlfriend. An argument had reportedly broken out between Cooper and other men. During the dispute, one of the individuals arguing with Cooper called a man named Quentin Lamar Caldwell III, who was also known as 'Q.'
Witnesses reported that Caldwell, then 20 years old, arrived at the scene in a black SUV, got out of the vehicle, and opened fire. In addition to the fatal shots that struck Cooper, a second man was also wounded in the leg but was expected to recover. Following the shooting, Caldwell fled the scene.
A significant breakthrough in the investigation came in March 2024, when Tulsa Police arrested Quentin Lamar Caldwell III in connection with Farron Cooper's murder. Witnesses identified Caldwell as the shooter. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm after a juvenile adjudication. At the time of his death, Farron Cooper was a father and was expecting the birth of his son.
