On a warm evening in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of a young man full of promise was tragically cut short. Muhammad Imran, a 27-year-old male, was working at a convenience store on June 23, 2020, going about his duties as he had on many other nights. As his shift was nearing its end around 11:15 p.m., Imran was taking out the trash at the store located at 1500 N. MLK Jr. Blvd. It was in this seemingly routine moment that he was fatally shot in what authorities believe was an attempted robbery.
Another employee was present at the time but was not physically harmed.
The investigation into Imran's murder has been ongoing since that fateful night. Law enforcement officials have pieced together a partial narrative of the events from surveillance footage. The video shows a man dressed entirely in red inside the store earlier in the day, and he is considered the primary suspect in this senseless act of violence. The footage also captures the parking lot at the moment the fatal shot was fired. After the shooting, the suspect forced the other employee back into the store. Although she attempted to lock the door, the assailant forced it open, causing her to fall to the ground. Despite having multiple camera angles of the suspect, his identity remains unknown, and he has yet to be apprehended.
In the years following the tragic event, the case has remained an active investigation, transitioning into a cold case as leads grew scarce. In an effort to generate new information, the Tulsa Police Department has released security footage to the public. Additionally, a substantial reward of $10,000 has been offered by Tulsa Crime Stoppers for any information that leads to an arrest. The owner of the store, Jay Awan, remembers his former employee fondly, recalling that Imran had many passions and goals in his life that were extinguished in an instant. The search for justice for Muhammad Imran continues as his family, friends, and community await answers and the arrest of the individual responsible for his death.
