In the spring of 2014, the city of Beloit, Wisconsin, was unsettled by a burst of violence that claimed the life of 20-year-old Raymond LeArthur Holloway. A Black male, Holloway was shot and killed on the afternoon of April 25, 2014. His death was one of two unrelated gun homicides that occurred within a mere 10-hour span in the city, a highly unusual occurrence for the community.
Holloway was with friends outside his grandmother's house when the fatal shooting took place.
The investigation into Holloway's death led to the identification of multiple suspects. One of the individuals involved, Jajuan Logan, who was also 20 years old at the time, was arrested and charged. Logan had been a passenger in a vehicle when he fired the shots that struck Holloway. In court, Logan claimed that he saw Holloway with a gun, prompting him to shoot. He was ultimately convicted of second-degree reckless homicide. During his sentencing, Logan offered an apology to Holloway's family, expressing remorse for the tragic turn of events. He received a 12-year prison sentence for the homicide and an additional two years for a weapons charge.
More than a year after the shooting, a second suspect was apprehended in connection with Holloway's death. In August 2015, authorities located and arrested a man in Lakewood, Washington, based on a tip. A warrant for his arrest on a charge of second-degree reckless homicide had been issued in Rock County, Wisconsin. This second arrest marked another step forward in a case that had brought significant grief to a Beloit family and rattled the local community.
