In the spring of 2020, the life of 18-year-old Jwan Lamon was tragically cut short. On April 9th, in the 1500 block of Fischer Road in South Beloit, Illinois, the young man from Janesville, Wisconsin, was shot multiple times. For five days, his fate remained a mystery to his loved ones. It wasn't until the evening of April 14th that his body was discovered by police in the 1600 block of Royce Avenue in Beloit, Wisconsin.
The discovery of the deceased male prompted an immediate
investigation by the Beloit Police Department. An autopsy conducted by the Rock County Coroner's Office confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. As detectives delved into the case, evidence began to suggest that the killing had not taken place where the body was found. This led them to collaborate with the Winnebago County Sheriff's Detective Bureau.
The joint investigation led authorities to identify a suspect in the murder of Jwan Lamon. Davonte L. Hyler, a 28-year-old man from Beloit, was identified as the individual responsible for the shooting. At the time he was named as the suspect, Hyler was already incarcerated at the Rock County Jail on an unrelated felony charge for possession of a firearm by a felon, a charge that was filed just eleven days after the homicide. On July 1, 2020, while still in custody, Hyler was served with a warrant for the murder of Jwan Lamon. The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized six counts of First Degree Murder against him.
