In the early hours of a Saturday morning in August 2014, the life of 20-year-old Keenan M. Harris, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On August 16, Harris was at a party in an apartment located in the 800 block of N. 22nd St. when a dispute escalated into violence just before 3 a.m.
During the altercation, gunfire erupted, striking both Harris and another young man, 22-year-old Stevan L. Owens.
Neither man survived their injuries, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was one of three homicides to occur in Milwaukee in as many days, contributing to a violent weekend in the city.
In the immediate aftermath of the double homicide, Milwaukee police began an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shootings. Preliminary information suggested that the party had gotten out of hand and that there were armed individuals present. Authorities arrested several people in connection with the incident. However, a couple of days later, only one individual remained in custody. At that time, no charges had been referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office. The long-term resolution of the case, including whether any suspects were ultimately charged and prosecuted for the deaths of Keenan Harris and Stevan Owens, has not been publicly reported.
