In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the afternoon of March 9, 2015, a gathering at a friend's duplex for a barbecue took a tragic turn, ending the life of 23-year-old Rumeal Meatheney. An argument, the specifics of which remain unclear to witnesses, broke out between Meatheney and another man, 34-year-old Robbie L. Fields. The verbal dispute escalated, moving from outdoors into the residence in the 1700 block of West Mineral Street.
The confrontation turned violent inside the home, and the sound
of multiple gunshots echoed through the neighborhood at approximately 4:15 p.m. Rumeal Meatheney, a Black/African American male, was struck by bullets in the neck and chest. Witnesses reported seeing Fields flee the scene in his SUV immediately after the shooting.
In a surprising development two days later, on March 11, Robbie L. Fields approached a forensic investigator with the Milwaukee Police Department and confessed to the crime. He reportedly told the investigator, "I need to turn myself in... Homicide, I killed someone," and specified that the incident occurred on Mineral Street. Fields, who was also known by the name Chris P. Klean, was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with first-degree reckless homicide for his role in the death of Rumeal Meatheney. Some reports suggested that Meatheney may not have been the intended target of the violence.
