On the night of July 23, 2016, a confrontation at a BP gas station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, turned fatal for 22-year-old Jovonte M. Daniels. The male victim was at the gas station located at Sherman and Burleigh around 11:30 p.m. with his girlfriend, Andrea Robertson, when they encountered her ex-boyfriend, Lorainz Johnson.
A verbal argument erupted between Daniels and Johnson concerning Robertson.
The situation escalated when Daniels put down the items he had purchased and appeared ready to engage in a physical fight. At that moment, Johnson, who was 21 years old at the time, pulled out a small silver revolver from his pants pocket and fired a single shot, striking Daniels in the chest. Johnson then fled the scene in his vehicle. Daniels' girlfriend rushed him to St. Joseph Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.
Following the shooting, a warrant was issued for Lorainz Johnson's arrest, and he was charged with first-degree reckless homicide. He was later apprehended, and his case went to trial. In February 2017, a jury found Johnson guilty of the charge. On April 7, 2017, Lorainz Johnson was sentenced to 14 years in prison, followed by 10 years of extended supervision for the death of Jovonte Daniels.
