In the autumn of 2018, the life of 23-year-old Isiah Lee, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On the evening of October 16th, an altercation unfolded that would end in his death. Lee's body was discovered the following morning in Dineen Park, near 64th and Nash, by a man walking his dog. An autopsy would later reveal that he had sustained eight gunshot wounds to his head, chest, and extremities.
The investigation into Lee's death uncovered a
harrowing story of abduction and violence. On the night of the incident, police were called to the vicinity of Vel R. Phillips Avenue and Melvina Street for a shooting report. There, they found evidence of a violent struggle, including 11 fired casings from two different firearms—a. 40 caliber and a 9mm Luger—as well as broken vehicle glass. It was determined that Lee had been abducted from this location. His clothing was in disarray when he was found, suggesting he had been dragged from a vehicle and left in the park.
The narrative of that fatal night was pieced together through the testimony of Lee's brother, who was present during the initial confrontation. He recounted that after they had parked their vehicle, a gold Nissan pulled up behind them. Isiah Lee entered the Nissan, and soon after, his brother heard a commotion revolving around demands for money. When Lee's brother tried to intervene, a man emerged from the Nissan and opened fire on him. He managed to escape in his own vehicle, which was struck by two bullets, hearing more gunshots as he fled the scene.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect, Dennis Daniels, who was 23 at the time. He was apprehended on October 20, 2018, following a traffic stop and a foot chase, during which he discarded a 9mm pistol that was later identified as belonging to Isiah Lee. Surveillance footage had captured a gold Nissan leaving Dineen Park on the evening of Lee's death, and the vehicle was recovered the next day with bullet holes and bloodstains in the back seat. On March 6, 2019, a jury found Dennis Daniels guilty on three felony counts in connection with the shooting death of Isiah Lee. He was subsequently sentenced on June 13, 2019, to 38 years in prison, followed by 18 years of extended supervision.
