Darion Vontrell Riley, a 27-year-old Black / African American male, was a man with dreams and a family that adored him. Known affectionately as "Leo" to his loved ones, he was carving out a path for himself as an aspiring mixed martial arts fighter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, training with dedication at the Zero to 100 gym. His passion for the sport was matched only by his love for his two young daughters, to whom he was a devoted father.
Friends and family remember him as a loving person, a rising star who was on his way to achieving his goals.
The promise of his future was violently extinguished on the evening of March 23, 2022. In what his family described as a drive-by shooting, Riley was shot inside his own home on Milwaukee's north side, in the vicinity of 38th and Wright. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the injuries he sustained proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them, leaving a community in mourning. The suddenness of his death sent shockwaves through his family, who were left not only with the emotional devastation of their loss but also with the unexpected financial burden of arranging a funeral for a man taken in the prime of his life.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Milwaukee police launched an investigation into the homicide. Despite their efforts and the family's public pleas for justice, no arrests have been made in connection with Darion Vontrell Riley's murder.
