On July 2, 1900, Deputy Sheriff Archibald McNeill, aged 25, was shot and killed while attempting to disarm a man inside a saloon in San Diego, Texas. Deputy McNeill, who served with the Duval County Sheriff's Office, was trying to arrest the man when he was shot. The suspect was subsequently arrested and tried for murder, but he was acquitted.
