On what should have been a day of celebration, Willie Owens, a 33-year-old Black / African American man, was fatally shot on his birthday, October 24, 2016, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The violence erupted near 19th Avenue and 62nd Street, cutting short a life and leaving a community in shock. Owens was found in the front yard of a home with multiple gunshot wounds.
