On the evening of September 12, 2018, emergency services responded to a call in a residential neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Brion Free, a Black male, suffering from critical injuries. Despite the efforts of first responders, Free was pronounced dead at the scene. The nature of his injuries led authorities to immediately classify the death as a homicide, launching an intensive investigation into the circumstances that led to the young man's demise.
