In the early morning hours of June 3, 2024, the life of Martel D. Winters, a 24-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short on the north side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The fatal incident unfolded around 1:00 a.m. near the intersection of 15th and Congress. It was there that Winters sustained a gunshot wound.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and though life-saving measures were attempted, Winters was pronounced dead at the location of the shooting.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office later identified him as the victim. In the days and weeks that followed, family and friends gathered to mourn their loss, with funeral services held on June 27, 2024, at New Pitts Mortuary in Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. At this time, what precipitated the fatal event remains unclear, and authorities are seeking information from the public to help piece together the events of that early Monday morning. No arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, and police have not publicly identified any suspects.
