In the early hours of July 1, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Milwaukee intersection, tragically ending the life of 20-year-old DaQuan Ellis, a Black male. The fatal encounter occurred around 2:30 a.m. near North Holton and West Center Streets. Ellis was inside his vehicle when he was struck by multiple bullets.

According to police reports, several suspects armed with handguns opened fire on Ellis's vehicle. A woman who witnessed the aftermath of the shooting reported seeing two men, each holding a handgun, running from the scene. She recounted that the men told her "It wasn't us" as they passed, though she believed them to be the shooters. In the immediate moments following the attack, a bystander rushed to Ellis's aid, attempting to resuscitate him before police arrived and took over life-saving measures.

Despite the efforts of the good samaritan and the police, Ellis's injuries were too severe. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds. Family members confirmed his passing through social media posts. Ellis was a father to three young children, a daughter and two sons. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office scheduled an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. As of now, police are still seeking information about the suspects involved in this homicide.
