In the bitter cold of a Milwaukee afternoon on January 25, 2018, the life of 18-year-old Kole Jopek, a White Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. The young man was fatally shot around 4 p.m. in the vicinity of 44th and Garfield. When police arrived at the scene, they found Jopek, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a grim
narrative of a drug deal gone horribly wrong. According to witnesses, Jopek was present at a residence for a prearranged drug transaction. A dispute erupted during the deal, escalating with terrifying speed. The drug supplier, later identified as 41-year-old Michael Spears, allegedly brandished a pistol and menacingly announced, "You know what time it is!" before pushing Jopek against a wall. Gunfire then erupted within the home.

Just five days after the fatal shooting, on January 30, Spears was located and apprehended after a standoff with law enforcement. He was subsequently charged with first-degree reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon.
