Daniel C. Cabrices, aged 53, was found shot to death on June 7, 2016, on Milwaukee's south side. His body was discovered near South 15th Place and West Grant Street in the Lincoln Village neighborhood. The police were called to the scene around 5:50 a.m., where they found a trail of blood leading across the street to a building where Cabrices' body was located.
An autopsy revealed that Cabrices had suffered three gunshot wounds.
The investigation into Cabrices' death led to the arrest of 32-year-old Travoris Walton. According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video from the area showed Cabrices walking with a woman with tattoos. The woman later told police that Walton, also known as 'Boo,' approached Cabrices and demanded money. When Cabrices refused, Walton fired a warning shot and then shot Cabrices in the leg. Walton then handed the gun to another individual in his car, and both fled the scene along with the woman.
Walton was charged with felony murder and other related charges. He pleaded guilty to the charges in December 2016 and was remanded into custody pending his sentencing. If convicted, Walton faced up to 35 years in prison for the felony murder charge, along with additional penalties for the other charges.
