On July 22, 2022, David Euel Nelson, a 53-year-old White male from McFarland, Wisconsin, died. His death was the result of suicide following a prolonged and difficult struggle with anxiety and depression. Those closest to him were aware of the tremendous effort he made in the years leading up to his death to remain with his loved ones.
Born on June 18, 1969, in Menlo Park, New Jersey, Nelson was a highly educated and community-oriented individual.
He earned an undergraduate degree from California State University, Fresno, a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University, and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He dedicated his professional life to the well-being of others, serving as the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging. He had also previously worked for the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association.
A gifted communicator and storyteller, he co-founded the Mad City Story Slam. He found joy in connecting with people through various forms of expression, including storytelling, stand-up comedy, and fiction writing. He was a beloved husband to his wife, Carrie, and a devoted father to their two children, Elizabeth and Daisy. His passing was a profound loss for his family, friends, and the wider community he served. Due to the nature of his death, there were no arrests made nor any suspects sought by law enforcement.
