Josiah Rochon Davion Wallace was a fun, loving, and family-oriented young man. Known to friends as charismatic and goofy, the 22-year-old Black man from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, attended Destiny High School and enjoyed rapping and singing. Above all, he loved his family, which included a large extended network and his 8-month-old daughter.
On the evening of Monday, June 15, 2020, Josiah’s life was tragically cut short.
Just after 7:20 p.m., in the 3600 block of North 19th Street, he suffered fatal gunshot wounds. His mother, Rochell Haley, later explained that her son was killed after a fight with a friend. She said the friend was unhappy with the outcome of the fight and demanded a rematch. When the friend was still not satisfied after the second fight, he shot Josiah.
The sudden violence left Josiah’s family devastated. "We had a childhood so different," his mother recalled. "We had fun. We had fights, we made up the next day. We didn't resort to killing each other." She struggled to comprehend the lethal turn of events, adding, "The fact that I'm nonviolent, and you resort to that, that's a little difficult."
Milwaukee police opened a homicide investigation into Josiah Wallace’s death. However, as of their last update in June 2020, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. The case remains unsolved.
