On a Saturday evening in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the life of 16-year-old Fabian Guzman was abruptly cut short in a senseless act of violence. On September 19, 2020, the male teenager was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a minor traffic accident near North 6th Street and West Walnut Street. This seemingly insignificant event escalated into a fatal road rage incident.
Following the minor collision, Devante Doss, the driver of the other vehicle, opened fire with an AR-15 style
rifle into the car carrying Fabian. The driver of the vehicle Fabian was in sped away from the scene and drove to a hospital for help. Tragically, Fabian succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and died at the hospital.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Devante Doss, an Air Force veteran, was identified as the suspect. The investigation into Fabian’s death led to Doss’s arrest. During his trial, it was revealed that Doss had sent letters to witnesses in an attempt to dissuade them from testifying. This act was seen by the prosecution as a reflection of his aggressive capabilities.
Ultimately, a Milwaukee County judge sentenced Devante Doss to 60 years in state prison for the killing of Fabian Guzman. His sentence consists of 40 years of confinement followed by 20 years of extended supervision. The judge presiding over the case condemned the random violence that has plagued the city's streets. Those who knew Fabian remembered him as a young man with a passion for making beats, rapping, and playing chess.
