On New Year's Eve 2016, a gathering in Federal Way, Washington, turned tragic, ending the life of 21-year-old Davary V. Hicks. A Black/African American male, Hicks was attending a party in the 32100 block of 46th Place Southwest in the early morning hours of December 31st when a dispute erupted over allegedly stolen property. The items in question were reportedly an iPhone and an Xbox.
This confrontation escalated, and sometime around 3:30 a.m., Hicks was shot multiple times.
First responders arrived at the scene and transported him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Despite medical efforts, Davary Hicks succumbed to his injuries at approximately 5 p.m. that evening. The King County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that his cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and ruled it a homicide.
Federal Way police immediately launched an investigation into the shooting, stating that it did not appear to be a random act. Detectives received cooperation from witnesses at the party who provided details about a potential suspect. Investigators also looked into whether tracks found near Lake Lorene, about half an hour after the shooting, were connected to the incident, but a definitive link was not established. Although police were pursuing active leads in the case, no arrests have been publicly announced, and the suspect or suspects involved in the death of Davary Hicks have not been officially named or apprehended. The investigation into his murder remains ongoing.
