In the late afternoon of January 20, 2019, a burst of violence in a Renton, Washington, Walmart parking lot cut short the life of 16-year-old E-Marion Troy Walker-Black. The Black / African American male was a young father to a son and a newborn daughter.
Reports from that day indicate that E-Marion had arranged to meet with two other individuals in the parking lot. While he was behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz, an altercation broke out inside the vehicle.
During the dispute, one of the individuals he met shot E-Marion in the chest. The car then crashed into the side of the Walmart building.
When law enforcement arrived, they found E-Marion had succumbed to his injuries at the scene. One of the passengers who had been in the car at the time of the shooting fled the location and was not immediately identified. The second individual remained at the scene and was reported to be cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
In the immediate aftermath, family members described E-Marion as a generous and bright teenager who was dedicated to his family, particularly his two young children and his grandparents, with whom he lived and helped care for. His grandfather spoke of the family's devastation, compounded by the fact that they had lost another family member to violence in the recent past. Despite the cooperation of the passenger who remained at the scene, information regarding a suspect or any subsequent arrests in the case has not been made publicly available in the years that followed the incident. The investigation into the death of E-Marion Troy Walker-Black remains without a publicly announced resolution.
