In the quiet community of Nordland, Washington, a late summer evening barbecue took a tragic turn, ending the life of 24-year-old James McDonald. On August 26, 2020, McDonald was enjoying a gathering with friends on Marrowstone Island. Also present was 59-year-old John Paul Beckmeyer and his girlfriend, Danielle Boucher. The group was drinking and barbecuing outside a fifth-wheel trailer where Beckmeyer resided.
