In the late hours of March 31, 2020, Dante Dyangulo Robinson, a 28-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot in a Tacoma, Washington apartment. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the 1800 block of South 15th Street. His girlfriend had just returned to their apartment from a quick trip to a nearby store, a visit prompted by a forgotten item. Upon her return, merely 15 minutes later, she discovered Robinson unresponsive.
Emergency services were called, and though officers attempted CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Dante Robinson was a U.S. Army veteran who had served two tours in Afghanistan and was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. He was a father to two young children. His family described him as a quiet and gentle man who was active in his church. He was originally from Kissimmee, Florida, and had enlisted in the Army right after high school. He remained in Washington after completing his military service.
The investigation into Robinson's death has remained unsolved for years, a source of ongoing anguish for his family. The Tacoma Police Department has not made any arrests and has not publicly identified any suspects. Investigators have mentioned that surveillance footage from the apartment complex showed a person dressed in dark clothing in the area before the shooting. This individual was seen running from the building after the sound of gunfire. Despite pleas from Robinson’s family, who have traveled from Florida and Virginia to seek answers, and a news conference held by the police, no new leads have emerged. The case remains open, with authorities and Robinson's loved ones hoping that someone with information will come forward to bring a sense of closure to this tragic loss.
