In the early morning hours of September 18, 2022, the life of 22-year-old Naej Belledent was tragically cut short in an apartment in Everett, Washington. Responding to a 911 call from Belledent's brother at approximately 7:20 a.m., police arrived at the residence in the 3200 block of Wetmore Avenue to a grim scene. Belledent was discovered on a bed with a woman, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate aid rendered by officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide. The female present was not physically harmed in the incident.
The subsequent investigation into the death of the young man, a male resident of Everett, quickly focused on a suspect with a history of domestic violence. Jeremiah Stringfellow, 27, was identified as the primary suspect. The woman with Belledent was Stringfellow's ex-girlfriend of five years, and she had reported a history of being assaulted, strangled, and stalked by him following their breakup. Evidence gathered by investigators painted a damning picture. Cell phone data placed Stringfellow in the vicinity of the crime scene around the time of the shooting. Furthermore, surveillance footage captured Stringfellow's vehicle near the apartment, and showed a suspect, later identified as Stringfellow, putting on gloves shortly before the 911 call was made.
A crucial element of the investigation came from Stringfellow's own actions following the murder. Detectives discovered that in the hours after the shooting, he conducted numerous Google searches for news related to the incident, including terms like "shooting in north Everett today" and "Wetmore ave Everett wa". This, combined with the other evidence, led to his arrest on November 4, 2022. Stringfellow was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. At a court hearing, a judge found probable cause for the charges and set his bail at $1 million. The investigation revealed a disturbing narrative of obsession and violence, culminating in a tragic loss of life.
