In the summer of 1980, on June 30th, a 29-year-old White/Caucasian male named Hiram A. Ritchie, a deputy sheriff from Hazard, Kentucky, met a tragic and untimely end. His death unfolded near Buckhorn Lake while he was in the line of duty, serving papers for the Perry County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Ritchie, along with another deputy, had stopped to investigate a group of four brothers who were sitting on a bridge railing.
