In the small community of Combs, Kentucky, a verbal argument on a late Sunday evening in May took a fatal turn, ending the life of 42-year-old Jason Michael Combs. A White male, Combs was a resident of Jackson, Kentucky. On the night of May 21, 2023, what began as a disagreement with another man escalated into a physical altercation.
The dispute was with 59-year-old Danny Holland of Mansfield, Ohio.
According to Holland's account to the police, Combs assaulted him, and during the ensuing struggle, a shot was fired. The bullet struck Combs, who was then transported to the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced deceased by the Perry County Coroner's Office.
Kentucky State Police troopers and detectives responded to a call about a deceased person on Elm Shoal Branch at approximately 10:40 P.M. Holland, who had sustained minor injuries during the fight, was also taken to the same hospital for treatment. Following consultation with the Perry County Attorney's Office, Danny Holland was arrested and taken to the Kentucky River Regional Jail. He has been charged with one count of murder in the shooting death of Jason Combs. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with toxicology and autopsy results pending.
