In the late summer of 2023, the community of Hazard, Kentucky, was shaken by the violent death of one of its own. Ryan Edward Turner, a 37-year-old Caucasian male, was found deceased on August 27, 2023. The discovery was made on Turner Ridge Road, where his body was located with what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound. His death was quickly ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Turner's death led
to the identification and subsequent arrest of three individuals. Jordan Campbell, 28 years old from the nearby community of Viper, was taken into custody and faced a series of serious charges, including murder, burglary, and fleeing from police. Also arrested was 45-year-old Rebekah Campbell of Hazard, who was charged with complicity to murder. The third suspect, identified as 37-year-old Willie Lewis, also from Hazard, was located and detained by authorities in connection with the case. While his specific charges were not immediately publicized, his arrest marked the third in the ongoing investigation into the death of Ryan Turner. A memorial service to honor his life was held on what would have been his 38th birthday, September 3, 2023.
