In the winter of 1983, a dedicated law enforcement officer, Deputy Sheriff Alex Eversole, met a tragic end in the line of duty in Perry County, Kentucky. At 41 years old, the male deputy had been serving with the Perry County Sheriff's Office for a year, having previously served his country as a United States Army veteran.
On Tuesday, January 4, 1983, Deputy Eversole, along with two state troopers, was tasked with serving a warrant in a place called Glowmawr Hollow.
The situation quickly escalated into violence when the officers entered the residence. The suspect, without warning, opened fire on the three officers. In the ensuing gunfire, Deputy Eversole was fatally wounded. The two state troopers also sustained injuries, with one being left paralyzed.
The exchange of fire also resulted in the death of the suspect. Tragically, a child who was also in the house at the time was killed during the incident. Deputy Eversole was survived by his wife and son.
