In the lively city of New Orleans, Patrolman John Thomas, a dedicated male officer, tragically lost his life on March 10, 1901. The night was filled with the usual sounds of the city, but at a dance hall located at the intersection of Lizardi and Rampart Streets, a violent altercation broke out. Patrolman Thomas, in the line of duty, stepped in to quell the disturbance. It was during this heroic act of intervention that he was fatally shot.
