Jerome Scott Clifton, a 30-year-old trooper with the Kentucky State Police, tragically died on October 1, 1980, from gunshot wounds he sustained on September 16, 1980. Clifton was attempting to arrest a shooting suspect in Pike County, Kentucky, when he was shot. He was a nine-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police, assigned to Post 9 in Pikeville.
