In the spring of 1986, a wave of violence swept through Lexington, Kentucky, forever altering the lives of several families. Among the victims was Theodore 'Theo' Sweet, a 52-year-old male who found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. His life was cut tragically short on April 23rd, in a brutal series of events that claimed four other lives.
The ordeal began when two women, LaFonda Fay Foster and Tina Marie Powell, driven by a need for drug money, initiated a crime spree that would end in a horrific loss of life.
The group of acquaintances, including Theodore Sweet, had set out together after one of the women arranged for a check to be cashed. What began as a seemingly ordinary outing descended into unimaginable violence. The first victim was discovered in a shopping center parking lot, having been shot, stabbed, and run over. Later that evening, a second victim was found in an alley, subjected to similar brutalities. The horror continued to unfold as the bodies of Theodore Sweet and two other male victims were discovered in a field. They had all been shot, stabbed, and run over, with the vehicle they were in set on fire.
The reign of terror orchestrated by Foster and Powell came to an end shortly after the discovery of their victims. Their suspicious behavior at a local hospital, where they were seeking a taxi with bloodstains on their clothing, attracted the attention of a nurse. A police officer who happened to be at the hospital arrested them for public intoxication. The subsequent investigation swiftly connected them to the string of murders, leading to their convictions and closing a dark chapter in Lexington's history, but leaving an indelible mark of sorrow for the families of those lost.
