In the late hours of a Sunday evening in LaGrange, Kentucky, a life was tragically cut short, leaving a family devastated and a community in shock. On May 11, 2014, 24-year-old Justin David Rogers, a male, was shot and killed in a violent encounter that unfolded in the 400 block of East Washington Street. The incident, which police believe was connected to a drug transaction, marked the first murder in the city since 2009.
According to reports, Rogers and his brother were outside a home when an attempted robbery escalated into fatal violence. Rogers suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene. His brother was able to escape the confrontation unharmed. Family members indicated that Rogers had been staying at his girlfriend's residence at the time of the deadly altercation.
The investigation into the death of Justin Rogers led to the swift arrest of two suspects. Henry Schultz-Eggenspiller, who was 22 years old at the time, was taken into custody and faced charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence. A second individual, 46-year-old Robert J. Cabrera Jr., was also apprehended and charged with murder, in addition to trafficking in a controlled substance. Both men were subsequently held at the Oldham County jail. While a gun was recovered by investigators, it was not found at the immediate scene of the crime. Authorities credited the quick arrests to the cooperation of eyewitnesses who came forward with information.
