In the summer of 2014 in Louisville, Kentucky, a violent encounter cut short the life of 30-year-old Purnell Lester. On August 8th, Lester was inside a car at the Beecher Terrace Housing Complex on Fisk Court when he was struck by a gunshot to the head. In a desperate bid for help, someone drove the vehicle, now riddled with bullets and with its windows shattered, two blocks away from the scene of the shooting.
It was there that a person inside the car managed to flag down emergency responders for assistance.
Lester was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries two days later. The incident left the community searching for answers and law enforcement pursuing leads to find who was responsible for the fatal shooting.
Three weeks after the shooting, an arrest was made in connection with Lester's death. Anthony Johnson was taken into custody by police and charged with murder, wanton endangerment, and criminal mischief. Following his arrest, Johnson was held on a $100,000 cash bond as the legal process began to address the events that led to the untimely death of Purnell Lester.
