Thomas McKinney Jr., a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot in the head on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, in Louisville, Kentucky. The incident occurred in the early morning hours inside an apartment located on South Ewing Avenue in the city's Clifton neighborhood. McKinney, a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, was reportedly passing through Louisville on his way to Florida at the time of his death.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:30 a.m.
According to reports, McKinney had no known family or friends in the Louisville area. He was traveling with another man from Indianapolis who was also en route to Florida. Their journey brought them to the apartment of Vincent H. Dooley, a 36-year-old Louisville resident. An argument erupted between McKinney and Dooley, which tragically escalated to the point where Dooley shot McKinney.
Following the shooting, Vincent H. Dooley was arrested and faced multiple charges, including murder, trafficking in marijuana, and possession of a firearm. A grand jury subsequently indicted Dooley on the murder charge. The death of Thomas McKinney Jr. was recorded as the 15th criminal homicide in Louisville for the year 2015.
