In the cool of a late October evening in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of 34-year-old Leonard Davon Warner came to a sudden and violent end. On Sunday, October 23, 2022, officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were called to the Overbrook Apartment Homes in the Fern Creek neighborhood, responding to reports of a shooting. There, in the 5500 block of Overbrook Woods Place, they found Warner, who had been shot.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Known to his loved ones as 'Davon' or 'Uncle DayDae,' Warner was a man with a zest for life and a deep love for his family. He had a passion for music, teaching himself to play the keyboard, and had also impressively taught himself to speak Spanish fluently. His outgoing and goofy personality was a source of joy for those around him, and he was known for his ability to make people smile, even when they were feeling down. A graduate of Liberty High School, he had obtained his CDL and was working as a truck driver, with aspirations of one day owning his own trucking company.
In the days following the shooting, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office officially identified Leonard Warner as the victim. The LMPD's Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation into his death. However, in the immediate aftermath, police stated that they had not yet identified any suspects.
Despite the ongoing investigation, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the murder of Leonard Warner. The case remains an open investigation, leaving a family to grapple with the loss of a beloved son, brother, and uncle, and a community to wonder about the circumstances that led to a life being cut tragically short.
