In the quiet town of Booneville, Kentucky, a tragedy unfolded that shattered a family and the community's sense of peace. Ada Pearl McQuinn, a 66-year-old Caucasian woman, and her husband, Robert McQuinn, aged 70, were found deceased in their home on Wilson Lane on May 6, 2016. The couple had been fatally shot. Ada, who had previously suffered a stroke and had limited mobility, and her husband had moved to Booneville from Indianapolis nine years prior, seeking a quieter life.
The discovery was made by their daughter, Cristina McQuinn, who had come to check on her parents as she did every morning. The initial investigation by the Kentucky State Police suggested the couple had been shot in the early hours of that day. The Owsley County Coroner pronounced both Ada and Robert deceased at the scene, their lives brought to a violent and unexpected end within the walls of their own home.
Suspicion quickly fell upon another of the couple's children, their 48-year-old daughter, Lynette R. McQuinn, also known as Renee. She was taken into custody on the same day her parents' bodies were found and was charged with two counts of murder and tampering with physical evidence. According to her sister Cristina, Lynette had a history of mental illness and had recently stopped taking her medication. Cristina also told authorities that she had forced Lynette to leave the home just days before the incident due to her erratic behavior and that Lynette had previously made threats about how she would kill her parents.
Text messages reportedly placed Lynette at her parents' home around 1:20 a.m. on the day of the murders. A 9mm Ruger, believed to be the murder weapon, was later recovered in a field near the crime scene. In the months that followed, Lynette McQuinn's legal journey saw a temporary release from jail due to a delay in indictment, only for her to be arrested again on burglary charges for breaking into her deceased parents' home. This subsequent arrest also led to charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance.
