In the quiet community of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, the life of 46-year-old Ruth Marie Kilgus, a female, came to a tragic end on March 28, 2018. Her body was discovered by police at her home, the victim of a fatal encounter that would set in motion a chain of harrowing events. The primary suspect in her death was identified as her 51-year-old husband, Jesse Kilgus.
Following the discovery of his wife's body, Jesse Kilgus became the focus of a police investigation.
Authorities learned that he was heading to John Hardin High School with the intention of picking up his child. Law enforcement quickly converged on the school, which, along with two other nearby schools, was placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Jesse Kilgus was located in his van in the school's parking lot. A tense standoff ensued as officers attempted to negotiate with him.
