On August 19, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in the parking lot across from the Hardin County Justice Center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Janet Riley, a 71-year-old resident of Hardinsburg, was one of the victims in a domestic violence shooting. The shooting took place shortly before 9 a.m. local time, just before a scheduled hearing for an emergency protective order involving her daughter, Erica Riley, and Christopher M. Elder, Erica's boyfriend or former boyfriend.
