In the quiet community of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, the morning of January 8, 1992, began like any other for 29-year-old Elena Sanchez Hawkins, a mother of two young boys. Her husband, Michael, had left for his job at a local convenience store, leaving Elena to get their oldest son ready for the school bus.
