In a tragic turn of events that shook the community of Burlington, Kentucky, 31-year-old Kelli Kramer, a white female, was found deceased in her apartment on March 21, 2018. The grim discovery was made by her then-boyfriend who had gone to check on her. Alongside Kelli, authorities also found the body of her 9-year-old son, Aiden Kramer. Both mother and son had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their heads and torsos, signaling a violent and abrupt end to their lives.

investigation into the double homicide soon focused on a former partner of Kelli's, Joshua Ward, an Ohio resident. Their relationship, which had lasted for about six months between 2016 and 2017, had ended abruptly. Friends and family recalled that Kelli was a devoted mother who had overcome personal struggles and was striving to build a better life for herself and Aiden. Investigators learned that Ward harbored deep resentment towards Kelli, blaming her for what he perceived as his personal downfall.
