In the small town of Scottsville, Kentucky, the life of 20-year-old Kaylah Hodges was tragically cut short on the evening of October 3, 2016. A single gunshot wound to her back, fired from a rifle, ended a life that had just begun to blossom with the birth of her seven-month-old daughter. The man responsible was the child's father, 23-year-old Ethan Reid, with whom Hodges had shared a tumultuous on-and-off relationship.
The events of that fatal day unfolded at a residence on Huff Lane, where Hodges was staying with Reid's mother. Just minutes before the shooting, a chilling apology appeared on a Facebook account believed to belong to Reid. In the post, he expressed remorse, stating he was not a bad person but had been pushed to a breaking point. Soon after, Reid arrived at the home, intoxicated and armed.
Inside the house, a frantic scene ensued. Hodges alerted Reid's mother to his armed presence. As she tried to flee, Hodges was shot in the back on the front porch of the mobile home. A neighbor, hearing the commotion, bravely intervened, struggling with Reid and restraining him until law enforcement arrived.
