In September 2014, the community of Mayfield, Kentucky, was shaken by the tragic death of 34-year-old Kim Thomas Jackson, a local mother whose life was violently cut short. The harrowing events began to unfold on a Friday when she failed to appear for her job, prompting concerned colleagues to request a welfare check at her home.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers made a grim discovery. Inside the residence, they found the body of Jackson's 17-year-old son, Michael Eli Mohney.
He had been fatally shot while reportedly trying to protect his mother from her estranged boyfriend, Terry Froman. It soon became apparent that after her son's murder, Jackson had been abducted.
A multi-state manhunt for Froman and Jackson ensued. The search gained urgency after surveillance footage from a Paducah convenience store surfaced, showing a bloodied woman attempting to escape from a vehicle before being forcibly pulled back inside by a man. The vehicle was later identified as belonging to Froman.
The chase came to an end in Ohio when authorities with the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped Froman's vehicle on Interstate 75. Inside the car, they found Kim Thomas Jackson deceased. Froman was taken into custody and subsequently faced a multitude of charges in both Kentucky and Ohio, including murder and kidnapping. Following his capture, Froman was hospitalized with what was described as a non-life-threatening self-inflicted gunshot wound.
