In the late summer of 2016, the community of Beattyville, Kentucky, was shaken by the violent deaths of two of its residents. Among them was James Robert Brown, a 36-year-old man known as a carpenter by trade. His life was cut short on the night of August 4, 2016, in a fatal shooting. The discovery of his body on August 5, 2016, in a wooded area off Hell Creek Road in Lee County, marked the beginning of a complex homicide investigation. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
