In the spring of 2017, the Parkland neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, was the scene of a tragedy that would leave a family heartbroken and a community searching for answers. On the evening of April 8th, 38-year-old Damion 'Snoop' Morton, a Black male, was driving his vehicle in the 1300 block of Cypress Street when the sound of gunfire pierced the night.
Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 10:20 p.m., Louisville Metro Police Department officers arrived to find Damion inside his car, suffering from a critical gunshot wound.
Emergency services rushed him to University Hospital, where he fought for his life for three days. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Damion Morton succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that he died as a result of the gunshot wound. His death was ruled a homicide, and the Louisville Metro Police Homicide Unit began an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
Known affectionately as 'Snoop' to his friends and family, Damion was remembered as a calm, cool, and observant person, a 'quiet storm' who was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father, and best friend. His sudden and violent death left a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. In the years that have followed, his family has been left in a state of perpetual grief, yearning for closure and justice that has remained elusive.
As of today, the investigation into the murder of Damion 'Snoop' Morton remains an open case. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his death.
