In the late hours of a Tuesday evening in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of Richard Susewell, a 40-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On September 1, 2020, at approximately 10 p.m., officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were dispatched to a Marathon gas station located at the corner of South Shelby Street and East Burnett Avenue in the Merriwether neighborhood. There, they found Mr.
Susewell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported him to University Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Richard Susewell succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly before 10:30 p.m. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of his death was the multiple gunshot wounds he sustained in the attack. The incident was quickly classified as a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit.
In the days following the shooting, authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Mr. Susewell's death.
